Membership Has Its Privileges- part 1

Community Bible Church has over 600 people who would count themselves as a part of our church family (children through adults). Of these, 239 are counted as members of the church. Clearly, not everyone thinks about church membership the same. Maybe that’s because the Bible doesn’t directly speak to the issue. But are there good reasons why you should consider membership in a local church? Should you become a member of Community Bible Church?
While we’ll examine this question over the next several months, I’ll be upfront and let you know, I believe everyone who comes into the fellowship of a Bible-teaching church should seriously consider the conditions for membership in that local church. We all acknowledge that in the life of the church today in America, it is far too easy for people to drift in and out, without any meaningful connection to others in the body of Christ. This isn’t as it should be. No one would argue that this is helpful or biblical.
The Apostle Paul likens the church to the human body in 1 Corinthians 12.12 which reads, “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So, it is with Christ.”
Yes, the Bible clearly teaches that relationships among believers are important, but is membership necessary?
I will answer this, and several other questions related to membership in upcoming articles each month.
